What Pyro is for

Fire has the broadest status-effect support of the seven damage types, and 1.0’s status changes — raising activation chance while reducing how far effects spread — reward concentrating burn on fewer targets rather than smearing it across a horde. Pyro is the most straightforward route to a 30+ damage tag and the Going All In achievement.

Ranks

Every survivor has five ranks, the fifth added in version 1.0 along with two new synergy nodes, two passive improvement nodes, and one passive node that buffs the whole team whenever Pyro is in the squad. Ranks 2 through 5 each have an achievement:

RankAchievement
Rank 2Burning Desire
Rank 3Through The Fire and Flames
Rank 4It Burns!
Rank 5Inferno Incarnate

The Survival Level each rank requires has never been published by the studio, and is not guessed at here.

Personal mission chain

Pyro asks for five missions, each its own achievement, and unlocks repeatable quests afterwards. Every one raises Team Bond, the squad-wide bonus to Cash and Specialization Points.

Exposure → Accelerant → Flashover → Backdraft → Rekindle

The mission chain is fire behaviour in order of escalation — exposure, accelerant, flashover, backdraft — and then Rekindle.

Patch history worth knowing

A January 2024 patch increased the Flamethrower’s area of damage and gave killed zombies a burning visual effect. Version 1.0 tuned status effects generally: higher activation chances, lower spread.

Where Pyro fits
